La Femme / Original Painting

'La Femme' by Santie Cronje. 

She was admired for her beauty which caused her demise. She was an object of desire and a symbol of wealth. 

Sadly the only way to see huia today is behind glass at Museums like Te Papa. 

In this piece I am honouring her femininity and her life, and keeping her eternal spirit safe (red string).

Red String: 
The red string features in a few of the works. It is a symbol of protection and connects our world to the spirit world, where huia reside.
