Still Life with rose | Spain 1998

This little study was created from the only flowers and weeds that grew in the tiny little garden terrace. I didn't have a vase but the glass sufficed. The study informed a painting I did back in South Aftrica some years later.

I spent a wonderful four months in Spain with my then partner James English. We lived in a small village called Galaroza, in an old house with no power. My art materials were limited to a sketch pad, and a handful of pastels and charcoal.
