Distance marks a shift in my practice, where painting becomes a form of visual writing. A way of exploring feeling through material, gesture and space. Distance investigates the territory of the in-between space that I find myself in. The quiet geography between the country of my birth and the country where I live now, where home for me is on neither side.
By physically splitting a drawn vessel and landscape down the middle, I expose a hidden, vibrant core of paint within the fracture. The work transforms a structural break into a living seam, capturing the accumulation of memory, endurance, and the complex life that quietly grows within that separation.
