Painted in 2011 following a devastating loss, this piece is a deeply sacred visual elegy. A space dedicated to navigating immense grief while holding onto the fragile, enduring light of hope.
The composition centers on an open window frame looking out over a calm, expansive horizon of water and light. Perched gracefully at the top is a vibrant bluebird, while two bright yellow daffodils stand sentinel on either side, lovingly representing our two children. At the base of the open doors, a small cross and a delicate feather rest as tender personal tokens of remembrance and farewell.
For me, this painting holds the heavy weight of profound absence, yet offers a way toward peace. It stands as a testament to carrying deep pain while choosing to look toward the horizon, where love and hope remain intertwined.
