A Curious Collection

This corner of my website explores the edges of my practice, without needing everything to resolve into a particular style or body of work. Studies, collage, altered prints and available editions sit alongside one another. A collection to enjoy, explore and rummage through.

Bridging the Practice

The curious world of collage.

Over the years, my practice has moved between recognisable imagery and abstraction, between telling a story and allowing an image to simply suggest one. I’ve often found myself returning to fragments of places, architecture, objects and memories, gradually distilling them rather than describing them literally.

Collage gives me a way to explore that space freely.

I can take an image apart, remove what is unnecessary, layer fragments over one another and allow something unexpected to emerge. Sometimes the original image remains recognisable; sometimes it becomes almost completely absorbed into the work. The process is intuitive and often quite playful, but there is usually a connection to something I have made, seen or remembered before.

This has become increasingly important to my painting practice. The more I work with fragments, layers and abstraction, the more I see how they can hold the feeling of a place or memory without needing to illustrate it.
